This flu season has been a devastating one, compounding the pandemic resurgence with deadly fury, and some scammers are taking advantage of the chaos.
With every real problem we face, there’s a con artist out there looking to sell us a fake solution. Here’s what to watch out for.
FDA Warning
The FDA recently issued a statement warning that predators are taking advantage of COVID-19 concerns. Much of the population is waiting for that big breakthrough, be it in the form of an effective treatment, vaccine or some other preventative innovation. This level of anticipation can leave us primed as targets.
As of this article’s printing, there are no products or medications that can prevent COVID-19 infections, and there aren’t any treatments available outside medical settings. Anyone making claims otherwise may be trying to make a quick buck at everyone else’s expense.
Recalled Items
The majority of COVID-related FDA red flags have come alongside claims of increased resistance to the virus, although fraudulent testing kits, vaccines and medical products have also been hit. So far, over 150 manufacturers have attempted to scam US residents.
